Today, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti and National Conference candidate retired Justice Hasnain Masoodi has filed nomination papers from Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag Lok Sabha Constituency.

BJP candidate for Kashmir (South) seat Sofi Mohammad Yousuf has already filed his nomination papers. Two independent candidates have filed their nominations since the Election Commission (EC) has issued notification for the third round of elections on March 28.

An official of EC said that “PDP candidate Mehbooba Mufti and NC candidate Justice (retired) Hasnain Masoodi filed their nomination papers in the office of the returning officer for Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency today.”

PCC (Pradesh Congress Committee) Chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir is also scheduled to file the nomination papers later in the day with Congress ticket.

April 4 is the last date for filing nomination, while examine of the nomination papers will take place on April 5, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is April 8.

The election in Anantnag Lok Sabha seat, which is spread around four South Kashmir districts including Pulwama, Kulgam, and Shopian, will be held on April 23 (for Anantnag district), 29 April (for Kulgam district), and 6 May (for Pulwama and Shopian districts).   

The election results will be declared on May 23.
