On Wednesday, the Janata Dal Secular leader and the former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy backed the BJP’s BS Yediyurappa. While giving an interview in a television channel, the Chief Minister Mr. Yediyurappa said the Muslim community was cooperating in the fight against coronavirus and nobody should speak against them.
According to the CM, the whole community should not be accused for any particular incident, giving reference to the Tablighi Jamaat’s gathering in Delhi which became responsible for several coronavirus cases in the country. He further warned that he would take action against those who would speak against the community.
Mr.Kumaraswamy on his official twitter handle said, “I welcome and wholeheartedly support the resolve shown by Shri B S Yeddyurapppa in dealing with communal hate mongers in times of #COVID19 crisis. Despite the CM’s warning, many media houses are engaged in fanning the communal frenzy. (sic)”
However, CT Ravi, Shoba Karandlaje and several other party colleagues of Mr Yediyurappa have made controversial remarks regarding the issue. In his message Mr Kumaraswamy said, “The CM should also order his party colleagues not to air communally sensitive opinions.”
