On Thursday, the government disclosed that it has recognized six new routes to connect four major metros for high-speed rail.
State Railway Minister Rajen Gohain stated in a written statement to a Lok Sabha question that “Government has identified six routes connecting four major metros and growth centers of the country for feasibility studies for high-speed rail.”
Mr. Gohain explained that the study has taken up for identification of the new routes to Delhi-Kolkata (via Lucknow), Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Nagpur segment of Delhi-Chennai, Mumbai-Chennai, Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysore and Mumbai-Nagpur segment of Mumbai-Kolkata. He added that all the feasibility studies are all taken up under Government and its corporation with the Government of China, Spain, and Germany respectively.
He further declares that currently, MAHSR (Mumbai-Ahmadabad High-Speed Rail Project) has only been approved with technical and financial assistance from Japan government.
