The globally-prominent American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics has awarded DRDO Chief G Satheesh Reddy with the celebrated Missile Systems Award 2019 for his outstanding leadership in the programme of Indian missile.

The Missile Systems Award recognizes excellence in implementing or development of missile systems technology, which includes- inspired leadership of missile systems programs or significant technological accomplishments, announced American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in a press release.

Mr. Reddy was nominated and got selected for this prestigious award for his vital contributions for the nation towards indigenous development, design, and deployment of tactical missile systems and diversified strategic, guided weapons, navigation technologies and advanced avionics in India, informed the society.

Before getting an appointment as the DRDO Chief, G Satheesh Reddy was heading the entire Missiles division of DRDO, including programmes such as Agni series’ strategic nuclear missiles.

Mr. Reddy has also been credited for the development of tactical missile systems such as a man-portable anti-tank guided missile, Quick reaction surface-to-air missile, and the HELINA and NAG anti-tank weapons.

The DRDO Chief has also played a significant role in the development of Akash Air Defence Systems that assisted in saving foreign exchange, a number of projects to purchase air defence systems from foreign sellers were scrapped after its development.
