On Thursday, Odisha Chief Electoral Officer Surendra Kumar said that the final voter list for the upcoming 2019 General Elections and State Assembly Election will be published on January 21.

Mr. Kumar told the source that “the process of electoral roll revision is underway and the final list will be published on January 21.”

Earlier, the Odisha Voter list was likely to be released on January 4 but not it is rescheduled on January 21, said Mr. Kumar.

The Chief Electoral Office had further sought an additional time period of 15-days from the EC (Election Commission) of India for the purpose that was granted, added Mr. Kumar.

Surendra Kumar said that the first level checking of all VVPATs/EVMs will be completed by January 25. He further said that a special drive to be created awareness among the voters on VVPATs/EVMs, which will start across 147 Assembly Constituencies from January 7.

Mr. Kumar said that the training of election officials at every level will be completed by February 25.

Over 12 lakh voters have been included in the revised voter list, of which only 5 lakh are new voters and 2 lakh are physically challenged, reports the CEO, adding that a total of 459042 people have also applied for addition of their names in the voter list.

The Odisha Chief Electoral Officer also informed that the number of booths may be increased from the existing total of 37606 polling booths in Odisha.
