Today, an earthquake measuring 5.2 Richter Scale hits the northeastern states, reports an official. However, there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The unexpected earthquake took place at 1:15 pm and had its epicentre in Senapati district of Manipur, a seismologist told sources.
The quake was felt in some parts of Meghalaya, Assam, and adjoining areas of the north-eastern region.
Northeastern states in India are- Meghalaya, Assam, Tripura, Mizoram. Nagaland, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh – are considered by seismologists as the sixth-major quake-prone area in the world.
