Rinki Kumari, a bride in Bihar’s Chhapra took a brave step and refused to marry the groom as he allegedly came to marry at the mandap in a drunken condition. The bride told her family to ask the groom to leave as he was so drunk that he was not even aware of his surroundings and was misbehaving.
Tribhuvan Shah, the father of the bride to the sources, “The groom was so drunk that he was unaware of his surroundings. He misbehaved on the stage, so my daughter refused to marry him.”
The relatives reported that the alleged bride Bablu Kumar was unable to stand or perform any ritual at the wedding. Then the furious bride walked off and refused to marry. Though the family members tried to convince Rinki Kumari to return she firmly refused.
Eventually, the villagers prevented the family of the groom from leaving the place until they had returned the amount of dowry they had extracted from the parents of the bride.
In 2016, the government banned liquor in Bihar from when several incidents like this people have come across. In January, a bride in Nalanda refused to marry as the groom and his friends arrived drunk to the wedding. The groom was arrested by the local police and was charged for breaking the law.
However, the Bihar government claims that the prohibition has been successfully conducted while the reality is alcohol is being sold illegally in several places across the state.
