A curfew has been imposed by the Gujarat government in Jugleshwar area of Rajkot city. Officials said the curfew started from midnight tonight to contain the spread of coronavirus. They also said, there are a total of 28 coronavirus cases reported so far and the majority of them belong to this area.
The move has been taken to make the lockdown more effective as the authorities realized people in several places are not obeying the lockdown.
The Secretary of the Gujarat Chief Minister”s Office (CMO), Ashwani Kumar said, “Since people are still roaming outside in that area despite the lockdown, we have decided to impose a curfew from midnight in Jungleshwar area of Rajkot.”
No specific date for the termination of curfew has been declared so far. Jungleshwar is an area holding over 2.5 square kms and over 50,000 people live in the area, said Gujarat DGP Shivanand Jha.
On Thursday midnight, a week-long curfew was imposed for the same reason. To combat the deadly virus, a curfew was imposed in the entire walled city as well as Danilimda area of Ahmedabad city.
In the last 24 hours, more than 100 novel coronavirus cases have been reported in the country taking the total number to 13,835 with 452 deaths so far. This data was reported by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. On the other hand, 1,766 patients have been discharged or cured from the disease.
