Today, Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi charged Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for ‘lying’ on HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited) capacity to develop Rafale aircraft and therefore, asked him to resign.
Mr. Gandhi attacks the Defence Minister on the Twitter post, accused that her position as India’s Defence Minister is unsustainable as ex-Chief of state-run AL has “nailed her lie”.
He tweets and tagged source on the ex-chief of HAL assertion that “The RM (Rafale Minister) tasked with defending corruption has been caught lying again. The former HAL chief, TS Raju, has nailed her lie, that HAL didn’t have the capability to build the RAFALE. Her position is untenable & she must resign.”
Congress has accused BJP-led government behind the reason of loss over Rs. 41,000 crores to endangered and exchequer national security by evading the state-run HAL in favor of “some businessman friend” for the Rafale deal’s offset contract.
Under country’s offset policy, foreign defense units are authorized to spend at least 30% of total contract value in India via procurement of setting up of development and research facilities.
Earlier Ms. Sitharaman told the source that it was ex-Defence Minister AK Anthony’s unprecedented intervention, which caused to the deal being rejected after the committee negotiated the price had almost made the deal final. However, the charge is denied by Mr. Antony as ‘fake’.
Defence Minister has alleged Mr. Antony of not guiding HAL in seeking the Rafale deal.
Congress has stepped up the attack on BJP government over the Rafale deal and amid to make it a significant election issue before the Assembly Elections in several states of the country and 2019 Parliamentary Elections as well.
