On Friday, the Rampur district administration finally broke down the boundary wall of Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan’s luxury resort ‘Humsafar’. He was earlier served a notice by the government for grabbing the land.

Two JCBs were engaged in diminishing the wall over a ‘nullah’ of the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department. The demolished portion extends to about 1,000 square meters.

A large force of the police was deployed at the site to prevent any trouble. The resort was owned by Mr. Khan and is located 3 km away from Mohammad Ali Jauhar University.

The Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department alleged that the luxury resort was built over land owned by the state government and sent him a notice. The district administration was also accused in the case of irregularities.

The leader was also designated as land mafia after a series of cases registered against him in relation to the grabbing government and agricultural land owned by poor farmers.

The ED is investigating a series of cases registered against Mr. Khan from Rampur police. The Rampur, Superintendent of Police, Ajay Pal Sharma said that “We need to investigate the sale deeds and verify authentic documents to ascertain the actual seller. We also want to assess the accounts through which the payments were made. The parties which received the payments have to be authenticated.”
