The National People’s Party will contest polls in Arunachal Pradesh for the first time, has decided to support the BJP in one of two parliamentary constituencies in the state and assembly seats, which comes under it.

On April 11, Arunachal Pradesh will hold a simultaneous election to Assembly and Lok Sabha seats.

The NPP has fielded 30 nominees for the state elections and one candidate from Arunachal Pradesh (west) parliamentary seat.

The NPP’s state-unit Chief Gicho Kabak informed that the party has decided to back BJP candidate Tapir Gao from Arunachal Pradesh (East) Parliamentary Constituency, in accordance with instructions of high-command.

The district committees have further expressed their willingness to support the BJP candidate in 27 Assembly seats, which comes under the Arunachal East Parliamentary Constituency, he added.

Mr. Kabak said, “The NPP will support nominees of the BJP in the eastern seats, where the party has not put up candidates.”

He has also clarified that NPP was open to a post-election alliance with BJP in the state.

“The NPP does not have any pre-poll agreement with the BJP in Arunachal, but a post-poll alliance is imminent as the two parties are allies in Meghalaya, Manipur, and Nagaland,” added the party chief.
