Today, the Defence Acquisition Council has given approval for the purchasing of defence equipment amounted Rs. 2700 crore.

The approval of the fund was given at a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council, which was chaired by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The Defence Council gave approval to the procurement of three cadet training ships for Indian Navy. The ships would be utilized to offer basic sea training for officer cadets, the list also includes women officer trainees.

The vessels would be capable of undertaking hospital ship duties, offering disaster relief and humanitarian assistance, besides rescue and search missions and non-combatant evacuation operations as well.
