A day after the pilot’s death during the air show rehearsal, Surya Kiran team has decided not to taken part in the 5-days air show, Aero India 2019 started today in Bengaluru.
In the memory of Wing Commander Sahil Gandhi, who has lost his life in the crash, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited-built aircraft will fly the missing man formation – an aerial salute will be offered in the memory of the fallen pilot.
The missing man formation will honor the Surya Kiran Team Pilots, said the Training Command Chief Air Marshal RKS Bhadauria.
Other aircraft including Indian and foreign planes, which will continue their flying displays at the venue and according to their plan.
Mr. Bhadauria said that “in this particular incident they were doing a mirror image. The margin of error is very low. Whether it was an execution error or a bird that hit will be found out in investigation.”
Two other pilots were injured seriously while one pilot died, while rehearsing the Mirror formation, a day before the Aero India 2019 show.
The Surya Kiran team has been performing across the world on their aircraft and this is for the first time that the accident took place after the induction of Hawk Advanced Jet Trainers in the team.
This is the 12th edition of Aero India 2019 show, which will showcase the country’s air defence prowess and will be titled as the largest aero show in Asia. 61 aircraft would be on display and around 403 exhibitors are taking part in Aero India show in 2019. A round table of Chief executive Officers, startup manthan, drone Olympics, and celebration of women achievers will be the event’s some of the highlights. The five-days biennial air show started today and will continue till February 24.
