Narendra Modi’s territory Gujarat was chosen by the Congress for its high profile strategy meeting scheduled on Tuesday and the Congress Working Committee (CWC) is ready to start its campaign before the Lok Sabha elections. Giving a final shape to the party’s election strategy, the Congress is also going to carry out a brainstorming session in Ahmedabad.
It is the first time that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the new General Secretary of Congress will be giving her speech and addressing the CWC. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been given the responsibility of the 41 constituencies of Uttar Pradesh by her brother and the President of the party, Rahul Gandhi.
The meeting comes within the two days of the declaration of the Lok Sabha polls scheduled by the Election Commission. Sources said, through the highest decision-making meeting Congress is trying to give a strong political message to the entire nation from the land of Mahatma Gandhi.
The agenda was planned by the Congress some days ago but they postponed it due to the increasing Pak-India tension after the Pulwama terror attack on February 14. Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and all senior party leaders will be attending the meeting,
On Monday, Rajeev Satav the state-in-charge told the media persons, “It is after 1961, a gap of 58 years, that Gujarat is going to host a meeting of the CWC. It is also being held to commemorate the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi beginning a new chapter in India’s Independence struggle by launching the ‘Salt Satyagraha’ to Dandi on March 12, 1930.”
“Walking in the footsteps of the Mahatma, Congress will launch a new Independence movement to save democracy,” Mr. Satav added.
The party leaders have started the day with a prayer meeting at the Gandhi Ashram in Sabarmati. After paying tribute to the martyred soldiers at a memorial, they will proceed to the Sardar Patel National Memorial for the CWC meeting.
