Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has introduced a new series of coins, designed mainly for visually impaired people. The new coins are in the denomination of Rs. 20, Rs. 10, Rs. 5, Rs. 2, and Rs. 1.
During a function at his residence in New Delhi, PM Modi has introduced the new coins. Blind children were also invited at the event.
The Prime Minister claims that the “new circulation coins” with several differentiating features will help to visually impaired people, added that the BJP government was sensitive to make every initiative “Divyang friendly”.
An official release reads that various new features had been introduced in the new series of circulation coins to make them useful for blind people.
The weight and size of the coins increases from lower to higher denominations. The newly introduced coins of Rs. 20 is said to be 12-sided and the remaining coins are round in shape.
