Actor-turned-Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur, Sunny Deol has miserably failed to impress the Parliament with his attendance list in the first session of the 17th Lok Sabha but not attending the House for around 28 days.
According to the attendance record in Lok Sabha, Mr. Deol has attended the Parliament for 5 successive days soon after the restarting of Monsoon Session but then gave it a total miss for the whole week.
In total, Mr. Deol has attended 9-sitting of the Parliament, while gave a miss for 28 days in the Lok Sabha, out of total 37 days, in which the House functioned, including the Extended Session.
In the debut poll, Mr. Deol had won by 82,459 votes against Congress’ Sunil Jakhar from Punjab’s Gurdaspur Lok Sabha Seat.
Sunny Deol had joined the central ruling BJP on April 23, 2019.
In the recently-concluded Lok Sabha Polls, BJP had secured this seat after fielding Bollywood Actor Vinod Khanna. After Mr. Khanna’s death in April 2007, re-election were conducted but the seat went to Congress candidate Sunil Jakhar.
Actor Sunny Deol is the third member of his family to join politics. Earlier, Sunny’s father Dharmendra has also won from Bikaner Lok Sabha Constituency with the BJP ticket, and his wife Hema Mailin secured UP’s Mathura Seat for a second successive term from BJP in 2019 National Elections.
