A massive fire broke out at a renowned furniture market in West Delhi, late night on Thursday. No casualties or injuries have yet been reported. However, the residents of a huge slum settlement were left in the cold weather as about 100 homes were destroyed.

Several furniture pieces have also been damaged in the flame, causing losses of lakhs of rupees.

The sudden fire broke at midnight inside a four-storey building, which stores furniture and spread nearly to a slum. Residents of about 100 houses in the slum have been left homeless after the flame has destroyed their homes. Two people of them have minor wounds. However, no reports of any serious wounds have been reported. Over 30 fire engines were sent to the accident spot to control the devastating flame.

An eyewitness of the incident told sources that “the fire increased to nearby areas as the fire brigade team had trouble in reaching to the site. However, it acted very swiftly after reaching here and it was their coordinated effort which prevented the fire from engulfing more buildings.”

The reason behind the sudden blaze is yet to be investigated.  Further details awaited.
