On Thursday, former Union Minister P Chidambaram was told by the top court that the Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi will decide his petition for bail on the hearing. Mr. Chidambaram is accused in the corruption case of INX Media.

74-years-old P Chidambaram has been lodged in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail since September 5, after the investigating agency completed interrogating him in the case, was detained on August 21.

Veteran Advocate Kapil Sibal, who is also a leader of Congress, is representing Mr. Chidambaram, listed the issue for urgent before a justice-bench headed by Justice NV Ramana.

The three-judge bench has said that his request for bail would be sent to Ranjan Gogoi for taking a call on the listing of the issue.

While CBI is probing the corruption charges against the leaders of Congress, the ED (Enforcement Directorate) is inquiring into money-laundering scam in the case.

P Chidambaram has been accused of irregularities in FIPB (Foreign Investment Promotion Board) clearance of Rs. 305 Crores to INX Media in 2007, when he was the Finance Minister of India. His son Karti Chidambaram has also been sacked from his post for facilitating the deal.

On Monday, the Delhi High Court has said that there is no chance of his tampering evidence. The court’s order reads, “But since the investigation is at an advanced stage and Chidambaram being an influential person, the possibility of influencing witnesses could not be ruled out.”
