On Thursday, Goods and Services Tax (GST) department said that it has attached the bank accounts of Telugu actor Mahesh Babu to recover the service yet, which are dues from him.
As per the press release issued by Hyderabad GST Commissionerate, Mr. Babu has not paid the Service Tax for the fiscal year 2007-08 for the taxable services he offered as a brand ambassador, advertising and appearance money for products promotion among others.
It continued that “the total tax due from him was Rs. 18.5 lakh. Today the GST department has attached his bank accounts in Axis Bank and ICICI Bank for an amount of Rs. 73.5 lakhs which include tax, interest, and penalty.”
When asked, a senior official of GST department said that the Telugu superstar has failed to receive any reprieve from any appellate authority over this issue.
He further said that “we have attached the bank accounts and started recovering. We have recovered Rs. 42 lakh from Axis Bank today. Balance, ICICI bank has to pay by tomorrow. Otherwise, action will be taken against ICICI Bank.”
They also informed that the 43-years-old Telugu actor cannot operate the bank accounts until he pays off the tax dues and settle it with the GST department.
