On Friday, the Supreme Court has agreed to a petition challenging the Election Commission’s ban on the release of the move PM Narendra Modi, a biopic of Narendra Modi on April 15. The producer of the movie has filed the plea.

On Wednesday, the EC had banned the screening of the movie till the end of 2019 National Elections, claims release of any such film that serves the purpose of politics or display of any political entity should not be allowed in the electronic media.

Earlier, the court had disposed of the plea filed by an opposition activist seeking a stay on the release of the movie, believes that the EC was in the right forum to decide the issue.

The top court had left it to the election body to take a call by claiming that since the biopic was not certified at that time by the Censor Board, it couldn’t entertain the plea seeking a ban on the film release.
