Indian government declared the name of the Padma awards on the eve of 69th Republic Day, some of the popular and famous names were that of Music maestro Ilayaraja and star cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

On Tuesday evening Indian president Ram NathKovind gave away the prestigious Padma awards at Rashtrapati Bhawan Delhi. The total number of award winners was eighty-nine.

The name of the winners was already declared on the eve of the 69th Republic Day were some of the prominent names that were included were like that of Music maestro Ilayaraja and star Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Ilayaraja is one of the three winners of the Padma Vibhushan awards while the former Indian cricket captain is one of the nine Padma Bhushan recipients. Both the awards of Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan are respectively the second and third most prestigious and highest civilian awards in this nation.

In total eighty-five recipients were selected for such prestigious awards that also included two cases of duo recipients. The total tally includes 3 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan and 73 Padma Shri awards. Out of the total number of awardees 14 are women, 16 are foreigners and three awards are being awarded posthumously.
