Today, a 28-years-old Malayalam filmmaker was found dead at home in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, reports police. Nayana Sooryan had assisted several popular directors in the Malayalam Film Industry, was found dead at her own apartment on Sunday.
Ms. Sooryan’s exact reason for death will only be known after her forensic report is ready, added Kerala Police. The young Malayalam filmmaker was only 28-years old.
Kerala police reports that Ms. Sooryan was undergoing medical aid for diabetes for a long time.
Her mother alerted her friends after the Malayalam filmmaker did not answer her phone calls several times. Her dead body was discovered from her bedroom by Sooryan’s friends.
An upholder of parallel cinema, Nayana Sooryan has marked her space in the film industry as an independent director in Crossword, a 2017 anthology in which she portrayed the sequel of Pakshikalude Mananam with actors Vijay Babu and Mythili.
Before this, she had worked as an associate director under prominent leading filmmakers, including Kamal, late Lenin Rajendran, Dr. Biju, and Jeethu Joseph.
Ms. Sooryan has also directed several stage shows and advertisements, in and outside the country.
Sources close to her claims that the sudden death of Director Lenin Rajendran, who took his last breath on January 14, 2019, following a prolonged illness, also affected the mind of Soryan.
Nayana Sooryan had made her debut in the film industry, assisted by late Lenin Rajendran.
She was from Kerala’s Alappad, is survived by father, mother and two siblings.
The Malayalam film industry will mourn at her death.
