Today, Punjabi Singer Daler Mehndi joined the centre-ruling BJP, becomes the second celebrity to join the party after Bollywood actor Sunny Deol.

In the presence of fellow singer Hans Raj Hans, Daler Mehndi joined the ruling party. Mr. Hans is a BJP candidate in Delhi.

However, it’s not yet clear whether the singer will contest in the ongoing elections or not.

In 2013, Daler Mehndi had joined Congress, just ahead of Assembly Election in Delhi. He had also composed and sang a campaign song for the grand old party.

The 51-year-old Daler Mehndi has enjoyed immense popularity in the year 1990’s and also sang Bollywood hits like “Rang De Basanti”. His brother, Mika Singh is one of the biggest singers in the Bollywood. In the past, the Punjabi singer was charged in an illegal immigration case.

In the year 1998 to 1999, daler Mehndi had taken around 10 migrants, disguised as a dancer in his troupe, to the United States and returned without them. He and six others, including Mika were charged in 2003 for cheating people by promising to take them abroad. In 2018, he was sentenced to 2-years imprisonment. Later, the punishment was suspended and he was released on bail after he appealed against the conviction.

Earlier this week, popular Bollywood actor Sunny Deol has joined BJP in the presence of 2 Union Ministers of the ruling party.
