On Tuesday, a 27-year-old passenger was detained for smoking onboard Abu Dhabi-Mumbai flight of IndiGo, informed Airport Authority.
On Monday, the smoke alarm inside the flight went off after the accused, named as Tushar Chowshary, lit a cigarette in the toilet while it was on mid-air, said a Senior Police Inspector Shashikant Mane.
The flight attendant rushed to the toilet and tried to forcefully open its door, but found it was locked from inside, added SP Mane.
They kept knocking at toilet door, but when the accused refused to come out, the flight attendant was forced to open it with the help of a special key and found Mr. Chowdhary smoking a cigarette, said SP Mane.
When the onboard flight landed in Mumbai, the accused was detained by the senior police officer, added SP Mane.
Later, Mr. Chowdhary was produced before a court that remanded him in police custody, he said.
Cigarettes smoking or anything that produces flame or smoke is prohibited onboard commercial flights.
